With the 2015 Division 1 Fall National title, three Final Four appearances in 2016, 2017, and 2018, three Beast of the East Championships, four Cherry Blossom Tournament Cups, and four international rugby tours in Mark Jordan’s pocket, to say his time as Head Coach of UConn Women’s Rugby was defined by hard work and success is an understatement of vast proportions. When Coach Mark Jordan took over the program in the fall of 2008, the women went 1-6, on the brink of losing Division 1 status. Jordan, affectionately known to his players as “Coach”, shaped UConn Women’s Rugby into a formidable squad, thousands of push ups, pep talks, and practices later. Incoming coaches and active alumni, Taylor Edinger (B.S.,‘14) and Gabby Benitez (M.A.T., ‘16), are eager to carry on his dynasty.
Over the last 10 years, hundreds of young women have learned the game of rugby under Jordan’s tutelage of tough-love. He leaves behind an indelible influence on the many lives that have passed through the uprights on Depot, as he instilled the values of camaraderie and respect in not only gameplay, but in each and every interaction he shared with players, peers, and spectators alike.
While his competitive spirit and playful banter will be sorely missed, we wish him the very best success and happiness in his retirement and future endeavors! Thank you, Coach, for everything.
